President’s Message March 2022

I recently came across a quote “Everyone has the gift of time, but few utilize.” Incredibly, we’re already a quarter of the way through 2022. Time truly flies by! Yet when I pause and look around the Association, I am amazed by the countless people giving the gift of their time to help our industry grow and our communities overcome their water challenges.

February was Black History month, and I hope folks had a chance to read some of the inspiring stories on PNCWA’s LinkedIn feed (shout out to our Racial and Social Justice Subcommittee) of Black men and women who gave of their time to make significant contributions to the engineering profession. And keep an eye out for similar inspiring stories to celebrate Women’s History Month. But I did want to use this space in the Digest to pause and recognize one person in particular.

I’m honored to share that WEF awarded Lynne Chicoine (Clackamas Water Environment Services Capital Program Manager and 2021 PNCWA Woman of the Year award recipient) Life Membership (35 or more consecutive years as a member of WEF and a Member Association). There are currently 1,766 WEF Life Members in the entire Federation, and only 39 of them are women. And as far as our record search goes, we believe Lynne is also the first female Life Member of PNCWA! It’s truly an inspiration to have Lynne be a part of PNCWA and amazing to think of all of the time she has given to the water profession!

Who’s next after Lynne? How about you? How will you be using the gift of time in the days ahead? Come be a part of the work we’re doing!
