Reducing Combined Sewer Overflows with Smart Controls
January 28
12:00-1:00 PST
As urban areas face increasing challenges from climate change and intensified rainfall, cities are moving towards smart sewer technologies to manage combined storm sewer overflows. The Real Time Control (RTC) system being discussed in this talk will be comprised of gates and valves controlled by flow monitoring devices. Additional flow during a wet weather event is directed to a temporary detention system until there is capacity in the downstream system. This presentation will highlight case studies where a combination of new offline storage facilities and RTCs are reducing combined sewer overflows.
