The WAVE program engages students and emerging professionals from diverse backgrounds with the water industry through a series of workshops and attendance at the 2023 PNCWA conference. The workshops focus on the various paths within the water industry, networking, skills development, employment opportunities, and conference preparation. Each month until the conference, we will highlight our participants.
This year, we are offering PNCWA members and organizations the opportunity to further the future of water by sponsoring the WAVE cohort's attendance at the PNCWA annual conference! We hope to foster a connection between current members and these emerging professionals. Donors will be invited to celebrate the participants at the WAVE closing ceremony at the conference. Why are you interested in the water industry?
I am interested in finding solutions to help manage our resources effectively while dealing with challenges like water scarcity and climate change. This is a challenge requiring collaboration between different disciplines and I am excited to learn from industry experts and build on my skills at the PNCWA conference. Being from India, I have seen firsthand how difficult it is to obtain clean water and I would like to find solutions where clean water can one day be accessible to the poorest of nations.
What's one thing you hope to get out of this program?
I hope to learn more about stormwater management practices and to build my network in the water industry.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy going hiking and playing tennis!
Andrew Copsey
Ecological Engineering at Oregon State University
Formerly a student at Michigan State University, studying Integrative Biology.
Why are you interested in the water industry?
I have a passion for all aspects of aquatic ecosystems, especially from an ecological perspective, and I want to build a career working to conserve them and change how we as a society perceive/interact with our local aquatic ecosystems.
What's one thing you hope to get out of this program?
Become more familiar with the water resource industry in the PNW
What do you like to do in your free time?
As many outdoor activities as possible! I like to hike, camp, bike, swim, snowboard and just enjoy being outside and contemplating my surroundings. When I can't be outside, I enjoy reading, playing board games with friends, and playing video games.

Why are you interested in the water industry?
Water is one of the most important elements of human life. I am interested in the water industry so that I can help ensure an ample supply of clean and potable water to all people around the world. I grew up in Bangladesh, a developing, small country surrounded by rivers and lakes. However, clean, and potable water was scarce due to high population density, insufficient resources, and lack of technical knowledge. Growing up I saw that most of my people’s struggles are related to poor water quality. This inspired me to specialize in this area during my undergrad in Civil Engineering
What's one thing you hope to get out of this program?
I want to improve my networking and leadership skills and build a strong connection within the water industry.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy traveling, cooking, watching movies and series
