What a wonderful sight it was on March 22nd at Optimism Brewing as over 70 people split into teams in a (mostly friendly) battle of wits covering obscure waterways, water-based music, and what WSP stands for. We saw connections being made across the water industry and beyond that we rarely get to see outside of the PNCWA Annual Conference, all while raising more than $4,000 for Water For People. Thank you to our wonderful host, Optimism Brewing Company, and our generous Sponsors AECOM, Schnabel, WSP, Osborn Consulting, Stantec, T.Y. Lin, Carollo, and Consor, as well as our prize sponsors Rey Amargo Chocolate, Overcast Coffee and Elliott Bay Books.
If you were unable to join the Run For Water at our recent PNCWA conference or are just itching to get another opportunity to sweat in support of Water For People, join us for the World Water Classic 6/60K! On average, women and girls in developing countries walk 6K each day to fetch water to use for drinking, bathing, and cooking. You can help change that by running or walking 6K, biking 60K, or getting creative! Sign up now to move any time between October 7-16 and join the PNCWA group during registration. We will be coordinating meetups so you can get together with your PNCWA colleagues. Keep an eye on the PNCWA LinkedIn page for more information, or click here to register today.
Please join us for a beautiful 5k run/walk along the Spokane riverfront and help us turn the tide of the world’s water crisis by supporting Water For People. Water For People has already helped millions of people across 9 countries gain access to clean water, sanitation solutions, and hygiene education, and they continue to empower local communities and governments to invest in long-term water and sanitation solutions for lasting change. Click here to register.
After the run, local food trucks will provide lunch for all participants from 12 to 1:30 p.m.
The Water For People Committee would like to thank all those who participated in our conference fundraising event, Move For Water, and those who helped us “rinse a regulator” (and our Past President, Haley Falconer) at the Monday Night Networking Dunk Tank. Because of you, we were able to raise nearly $1,000 for Water For People! Also, sincere thank yous to Preservation Idaho, who provided a wonderful walking tour of Boise and made it easy and educational to get our steps in, and WaterReuse Pacific Northwest for their wonderful collaboration on the Dunk Tank.
Water For People’s first World Water Classic 6k/60k was a huge success! Over the 10 day event, almost 800 participants ran, walked, or cycled close to 15,000 kilometers in 13 different countries. Together we raised nearly $40,000 to support Water For People in ending the average 6 kilometers that women and girls around the world walk each day to get water instead of going to school, working, or playing.
The PNCWA team had a great showing with 20 participants raising $1,240, and our own Casey Gish took 2nd in the 6k run! Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed.
Great news! This year we will be joining in on WEF’s virtual Water For People fundraiser, the World Water Classic 6/60k. You can participate on your own or with others in your area in the 6k run/walk or 60k bike to end walking for water anytime between Friday, October 2 to Sunday, October 11.
For $25, you can participate in the 6k or 60k — or $40 for both, if you're feeling extra active! Registrants also will receive a Water For People adjustable running belt. Kids 12 and under are only $10! (Running belt not included for kids.) The World Water Classic is open to everyone. You do not have to attend WEFTEC Connect to participate.
The Water For People committee would like to encourage PNCWA members to join our committee! Joining the committee is a great way to show your support for the Water For People organization and the critical services they provide. Committee members help plan and implement exciting events at the conference and during the year and raise awareness of the work of Water For People among PNCWA members. Please contact Kelsey Harpham if you are interesting in becoming a part of the committee!
